I DO not believe there is a book that more needs to be read by every Cypriot alive than Birds Without Wings. The funny thing is, it is not about Cyprus, and neither was it written by a Cypriot.

If this is not Cypriots’ country, which country is?

The mind boggles: what a revelation. Cypriots have been living in Cyprus since 10,000BC and “it isn’t their country”. Frustrated, from Paralimni (Sunday Mail, February 1) tells us that a certain person expressed this comment on being told that you are in their country and should appreciate you are a guest here.

Defenders of which Republic?

I was bemused to read in the  resolution sent by the English School parents to the English School Board of Management that, amongst other things, they are demanding respect for the symbols of the Republic of Cyprus.

Heart patients shouldn’t suffer Third World conditions

Are heart patients across Cyprus to be held to ransom and allowed to suffer and die because of the ‘sour grapes’ of one cardiologist? Is this professional conduct? Does this demonstrate any kind of caring and compassion? I think not!

Defending history is a vital matter

Six years is too long a term

I disagree with the recent agreement between President Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Talat that the length of term in office for an elected governing administration should be six years.

Girl loses fingers in tragic accident

A FOUR-year-old girl from Paphos lost three fingers of her right hand when they got caught in a pastry-making machine on Friday evening.

Maria Papaioannou, from the Paphos district got her hand caught in a kouba-making machine which her mother was using at the time, around 8pm on Friday.
