Photo website is an exciting project with many possibilities

Your article concerning the new website for old photographs of Cyprus (Sunday Mail, February 8), is really positive in a country which is changing so rapidly.

I think there is one particular aspect of this topic where it would be very important and interesting to record the past before it is too late… And that is to safeguard a photographic record of the Turkish Cypriot villages and town areas in the Republic. Many of these villages are crumbling away, whilst the formerly Turkish townscapes are being changed beyond recognition.
These places once had a distinctive lifestyle, which must have been captured in photos somewhere, probably among those who now live in the occupied areas.

How exciting it would be to use sympathetic people in the north to try to copy these old photos!
A book could be a possible end-product, perhaps using the ‘then & now’ format? A joint project with two publishers, on either side of the line, could be really fascinating.
