AFTER NEARLY 13 years of freedom and luxury living in northern Cyprus, British fugitive Gary Robb was finally handed over to UK police yesterday.

Cypriot cat to get pedigree recognition

THE CYPRIOT cat will finally be recognised as an official breed, with experts believing that local cats have developed unique characteristics.

The pre-selection for the recognition will take place a Cat Show in taking place in Limassol this weekend. The event is organised by the Cyprus Feline Society, in co-operation with the World Cat Federation.

Two arrests after drugs haul

A 42-YEAR-OLD woman and a 22-year-old man were yesterday remanded in eight-day custody in Larnaca in connection with a 1.5 kilo drugs haul, police said.

EU aid for Turkish Cypriots

THE EUROPEAN Commission has signed two contracts for a total of €4.2 million to assist the Turkish Cypriot community to improve the management of solid waste and water and wastewater services so as to reach EU environmental standards.

New heist suspect

A SECOND suspect has been apprehended by police in connection with a heist at the Hellenic bank in Chlorakas village on Monday morning.

A 24-year-old Syrian man appeared in Paphos court yesterday morning and was remanded for eight days. The first suspect, also a Syrian, is also being held on an eight-day remand order.

Nicosia nightclub burns down

A NICOSIA nightclub burnt down during the early hours of yesterday, police said.

The blaze broke out at Pyli Club near Famagusta Gate at around 2.50am.

According to senior police officer and district head of the Nicosia fire stations, Miltiades Miltiadous, the fire services received a call about the fire just over 10 minutes later.
