CY strike averted in last minute talks

STRIKE action by Cyprus Airways (CY) cabin crew in a row over promotions was narrowly avoided late on Wednesday.

Lack of flights the problem

Sir,
I write with reference to the article in Friday’s Cyprus Mail (‘Hoteliers disappointed at prospects from UK and Germany’).

When will the hoteliers and Cyprus Airways realise it is not the accommodation offered that is at fault, but the lack of flight availability. I refer, in particular, to flights from the UK.

Degrading to women

Sir,
I refer to ‘An ad too far?’ by Jacqueline Theodolou last Saturday, April 8.

I find the promotion of Replay distasteful and degrading to women, and wonder, how come so much fuss is made of International Women’s Day when we women are still widely used so commercially?

Cyprus still much cheaper than UK

Sir,
I’m not sure where the ‘Man from the pru’ did his shopping to obtain the price of CY£20 for his 10 items.

As a test, I did an internet shop for the 10 items on the Tesco website and found the items came to GB£15.25 so no argument there. Looking back at the same items purchased in Cyprus supermarkets the total came to CY£10.76 or converted to GB£12.96.

A few rotten apples?

Sir,
I have been waiting for years for someone to explode this myth about the Cyprus police force, viz, that it contains only a few rotten apples and because the majority of the personnel is good, the force as a whole is OK.

Bus crash

EIGHT PEOPLE were taken to Nicosia General Hospital after a bus crashed in Lakatamia yesterday lunchtime.

Ten people were on board when the 58-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane of Makarios Avenue. The bus hit the pavement before crashing into the wall of a confectionery. The wall crumbled, damaging a nearby motorcycle and car.

Bird hits CY wing

THE WING of a Cyprus Airways (CY) plane was damaged when the aircraft hit a bird on its way in to land at Cairo airport late on Wednesday, the airline said yesterday.
