Bird hits CY wing

THE WING of a Cyprus Airways (CY) plane was damaged when the aircraft hit a bird on its way in to land at Cairo airport late on Wednesday, the airline said yesterday.

The Larnaca to Cairo flight on the Airbus A320 was close to landing when it hit the bird, an official of the airline said yesterday. “There was some damage to the wing,” he said, but added that the plane landed safely and there was never any danger to the 116 passengers on board.

The passengers that were due to return from Cairo to Cyprus on the A320 were brought back on a Eurocypria plane and the damaged Airbus was kept in Cairo for repairs. It is due to fly back to Cyprus today.
