Limassol to fix seaside flagstone

THE LIMASSOL Municipality has announced that it will renovate a granite-flagstone coastal road in front of the public zoo after residents and motorists complained that the roughness of the surface and the gaps between the slates make for noisy and dangerous driving. The projected cost of the project was not revealed.

Nicosia man accuses police of brutality

A NICOSIA man appeared in court yesterday, claiming that he was attacked by two police officers then unjustly arrested in October last year.

The man was in court charged with assaulting an officer of the law and resisting arrest.

Tourist dies

80-YEAR-OLD Swedish national Ivan Roland died in an Ayia Napa clinic last Saturday night. He had reportedly disappeared from his hotel in Ayia Napa last Saturday and was found unconscious and badly hurt at Cape Greco on the same night. He was rushed to an Ayia Napa clinic but later succumbed to his wounds. Roland, who was on vacation in Cyprus, was known for various chronic heart problems.

Carnival arrives in Limassol

THIS YEAR’S Limassol carnival kicks off on Friday as the Carnival King and Queen make their appearance outside the town hall.

The royal pair will appear in a chariot filled with lights and will be accompanied by majorettes, minstrels, the town train and various groups in fancy dress.
