Limassol hospital workers strike

WORKERS AT the Limassol hospital sterilisation unit yesterday staged a one-hour walkout, demanding better working conditions in their department.

The workers said that for the past nine months they have been forced to hand-wash the surgery equipment due the malfunction of the special machines.

According to the workers, the tools were not sterilised at 90 degrees as the rules stipulated but at 30 degrees — thus endangering the health of patients.

The workers warned that they would step up their measures if the problem was not resolved in one month.
