New university faculty to open in 2006

THE TECHNOLOGICAL University of Cyprus will receive its first students in September 2007, Education and Culture Minister Pefkios Georgiades and President of the University’s Temporary Administration Committee Andreas Demetriou announced yesterday.

Initially the University to be based in Limassol will have eight classes in five faculties. These include the Faculty of Geotechnical Sciences and Environment Management, the Faculty of Technological Applications, the Faculty of Administration and Economy, the Faculty of Health Services and the Faculty of Applied Arts and Communication.

Georgiades said that the functioning of the University would contribute to the implementation of the goal of expanding public university education in Cyprus, allowing some 20,000 students to study on the island.

Demetriou said the Temporary Administration Committee was currently carrying out a study on how the University could develop long-term and what kind of university campus would host the University’s activities during the next 10 – 20 years.
