APOEL make basketball history

DENTALCON APOEL BC made Cypriot basketball history by dumping Turkish side Banvit BC out of the FIBA Eurocup Challenge competition 100-66 in a sensational game at the Eleftheria Stadium in Nicosia.

Trailing 76-59 from the first game in Turkey, the Cypriots needed to beat their opponents by more than 17 points difference to stay in the competition and they duly delivered the goods in front of the home fans by overwhelming the Turkish side with 34 points difference. It is third success for a Cypriot team over a Turkish team since the summer.

Limassol based basketball team AEL also tasted success against a Turkish side as they defeated Fenerbahce 82-81a few weeks.

Last July, Cypriot football side Anorthosis Famagusta made headlines around the world when they beat Trabzonspor 3-1 before finally knocking them out of the Champions League.
