Cyprus still much cheaper than UK

Sir,
I’m not sure where the ‘Man from the pru’ did his shopping to obtain the price of CY£20 for his 10 items.

As a test, I did an internet shop for the 10 items on the Tesco website and found the items came to GB£15.25 so no argument there. Looking back at the same items purchased in Cyprus supermarkets the total came to CY£10.76 or converted to GB£12.96.

So Cyprus is clearly much cheaper than the UK, not to mention other items such as Local Council Tax, only 4 per cent of the amount we paid in England. There are many other items which are very much cheaper: I recently priced a tin of paint from a well known UK manufacturer and I pay £25 for tow and a half litres here, the equivalent price at a UK builders’ merchant is £55. Given the cost of living, wonderful weather and friendly local people I see no competition between Cyprus and the UK.
