Desperate fisherman takes to the sea

A DESPERATE Paphos fisherman frustrated at a new fishing license requirement was lucky to have escaped injury when he steamed into open waters at 10pm on Wednesday night in rough sea conditions. Though Demetris Hadjichristofias was not hurt, his vessel was damaged after strong winds and rough seas battered his vessel upon the shore of Geroskipou. Hadjichristofias, a Famagusta refugee who now resides in Paphos, said that he took to sea despite the bad weather because new rules require that he complete certain hours at sea before a professional fishing license is issued. “Tell me one profession that forces a man to go to work, and in such a dangerous profession!” the man yelled last night at CyBC cameras. “They want work? Here are the results!” he said, pointing at his damaged fishing vessel.
