Burglar sets fire to flat

A FLAT on 28th October Street on Limassol’s seaside road was burgled and then set on fire, police said yesterday.

The events occurred on Wednesday night at around 11.30pm. One of the neigbours saw smoke coming out of the flat and when she approached she found the door was slightly opened and that there was a fire burning on the couch near the door. The 33-year-old Iranian tenant of the flat was away at the time. The neigbour called the police and fire brigade.

The fire brigade arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire. Following police examination of the flat, it was confirmed that the door had been opened forcefully and the fire set intentionally. There were two points from where the fire started – one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

The tenant’s mobile phone, worth £60, was stolen. Burglars also took £160 in cash. The damage caused by the fire has not been determined yet. Police investigations continue.
