Criticism is healthy

Sir,

In reply to LK of Kaimakli (‘Stop criticising so much’, letters, November 5), as one of those who has recently used the pages of the Cyprus Mail to be critical, it appears to me that in the majority of cases the conduct that someone may complain about is usually attributable to a small minority of individuals. Criticism should not be taken as being critical of Cyprus or all Cypriots, only of the individuals. As Saskia Constantinou wrote in her article on concert etiquette, “… it is not only in Cyprus”.

However, may I ask LK of Kaimakli a question?

Does he or she consider that any of the critical comments are factually incorrect, or that the conduct which someone is complaining about should not be equally offensive to the whole of the readership, irrespective of nationality or ethnic origin?

In my view the only way to deal with such problems is to bring out the problems into the open. Brushing them under the carpet will not solve anything.
