Israel’s actions speaks for itself

Sir,

It is depressingly encouraging when one elicits a response such as the one from Mr Whitney (‘Hamas propaganda needs correcting’, Sunday Mail, September 27). Depressing owing to its tone, encouraging because one has clearly made a point.

There is no need to be an apologist for either Hezbollah or Hamas; neither would have come into existence had it not been for Israel’s aggressive and inhuman behaviour. It was Albert Camus who said “When injustice becomes law, revolt becomes a duty”.

Two recent reports taken at face value give some cause for hope: firstly the Israeli Army is now, under the enlightened gaze of the world, starting to try to deal with extremist settlers led by fanatical rabbis.

Secondly, and thankfully, a prominent Israeli politician has publicly acknowledged the truth that any just-minded observer has known for years; peace can only come with a withdrawal to the 1967 borders (more or less) that East Jerusalem be Palestinian and that Israel withdraw from the Golan Heights and elsewhere.  This indeed is the Hamas view.

As for the comments on the BBC and the rest; what can be said?  Anyone visiting HonestReporting.com can draw their own conclusions from the style and tenor of its language…

Finally and as for Gaza; the Blockade Busters have, after all, achieved something if they provoke such intemperate reactions which merely demonstrate the paucity of the Israeli position but then even one’s best Jewish friends tend to have a bit of a blind spot on this topic…
