Heat wave over by the weekend

A HEAT wave which has descended over the island over the past several days is not expected to last into the weekend, the Weather Services said yesterday.

Senior Meteorological Officer Stefanos Loizou said temperatures began to rise on Monday, when 34 degrees Celsius was recorded.

“Yesterday and today, the mercury has risen to 35-36 degrees and these are temperatures normally seen in July and August, not in May,” he explained.

He added that the forecast is for temperatures to come down from the latter part of Thursday.

“They should drop to around 30 degrees by the weekend, which is the norm for the time of year,” he added.

“This heat wave is only temporary and will not last long.”
