Man sets fire to himself and jumps off building

A 54-YEAR-old man from Limassol yesterday set fire to himself, started a fire in his flat and jumped off the balcony from the first floor of a Linopetra apartment complex.
The man survived the jump, but is in critical condition. Meanwhile, the fire spread in Silva Court, at Griva Digeni Street in Limassol where he lives. Luckily, the local fire brigade is situated nearby, and fire fighters were able to arrive speedily to the scene to put out the fire before it spread further.

The 54-year-old was taken to Limassol General Hospital, but due to the seriousness of his condition was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital where he remains for treatment. Approximately 90 per cent of his body has been burned, and he sustains a fracture to the joint because of the fall.

Police said that the man had been receiving psychiatric treatment and was in an unstable condition.
