Playing with clay

By Maria Gregoriou

There is much more that you can do with plasticine than just giving it to the kids to play with, you can create a whole world of characters and just the man to teach you how is coming to the capital next week.

Israeli animator and claymator Rony Oren will be giving a lecture on how we can create through animation on Thursday and he will also be leading a workshop on Friday.

The lecture and workshop are part of a series of events under the title Conversations on Creativity, which aim at building and enhancing cultural dialogue, communication and exchange of views and ideas between creative individuals.

The workshop is open to adults and especially art students, educators or therapists who wish to enrich their skills using this particular method.

Oren will illustrate his unique yet simple method of creating in clay, giving us all the tools needed to create a magical wonderland of clay characters. So don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and enjoy the creative ride. Just make sure you call up and reserve your place.

Oren is best known for more than 500 animated short films in clay and over 30 children’s books which he has illustrated.

If you would like to Youtube some of Oren’s clay work in action beforehand, just to see what it is really all about, then look for Grabbit the Rabbit, Foxy Fables or Tales of a Wise King.

Oren’s part in the Conversations of Creativity series is organised by the Embassy of Israel in Cyprus and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation.
