Remanded for mugging women

TWO 19-YEAR-OLD men from Larnaca were remanded by the Larnaca District Court to five days in custody, after admitting that they had assaulted and stolen the purses of two women on April 29 and 30.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, a 40-year-old woman from Indonesia told police that a pair of teenagers assaulted her as she returned from work in the Pyla tourist area on April 29, at around midnight. The woman said that a black car pulled up next to her and that the two assailants asked her in English to hand over her bag. She refused so the assailants got out of the car and beat her. They took the purse which contained a mobile phone, a credit card and €90.
The day after the first attack, a 47-year-old woman from Bulgaria called police to report that two young men in a black car had also beaten her and taken her purse, near the Oroklini tourist area. Her purse contained jewellery, a credit card and €25 in cash.
The car was registered to a 19-year-old Larnaca resident, who was arrested at around 2am on April 30 while on his way to Pyla village. The second suspect was also in the car with him.
