Two men sought after weekend stabbings

TWO BANGLADESHI men are wanted for questioning in connection with the weekend stabbing of two of their compatriots, police said yesterday.

Both victims are said to be in a serious but not life-threatening condition.

Police said they were looking for 30-year-old Mohd Ohedur Rahman and Md Mehebubar Rahman, 26, over the incident that took place in the old town of Nicosia on Saturday night.

According to reports, four Bangladeshis living in the same flat on Areos Street were having an argument when the two suspects attacked the other two with kitchen knives.

The victims were stabbed repeatedly leaving one on the floor and the other fleeing into an adjacent flat. The suspects fled in a car.

Police said one of the injured men had been living in Cyprus illegally.

In a separate incident in Ayia Napa, two men, an Egyptian pub bouncer, 40, and a 29-year-old Russian tourist were injured.

Reports said the two argued and the tourist drew a butterfly knife, injuring the bouncer on the hand.

Police said the Russian was also injured on the leg with a knife.
