Early trial for man accused of raping daughter

A MAN accused of raping his teenage daughter on a building site has been sent straight to trial by Nicosia District Court.

The 36-year-old father from Nicosia has been charged with raping his daughter twice over the past month, once at home and again on a deserted building site.

The 15-year-old girl and her mother reported the incidents to the police last week, resulting in the suspect’s arrest.

Although he didn’t own up to the crime, police investigations and interrogations led the case to court on Friday. The 36-year-old will stand in the witness box on November 6, facing nine charges, including two for rape, one for incest and another for the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Furthermore, the court decided the suspect should remain in custody until the date of his trial.

Meanwhile, a British court has agreed to extradite a 26-year-old Cypriot man back to the island, where he will face three charges regarding internet child pornography.

The IT student was arrested earlier in the week under a European arrest warrant.

The 26-year-old is accused of hacking into the computers of three underage girls and extracting provocative photos and data.

He then allegedly blackmailed one of them into sending him naked photos of herself, or else he would publish on the internet footage from personal moments she had recorded in her bedroom via her webcam.

The suspect has the right to appeal the British court’s decision in the next seven days. If he fails to do so, members of the Cyprus police Electronic Crime Department will go to London and escort him back to Cyprus, where he will stand trial.
