British woman dies after engagement party

JOY turned to tragedy on Monday night for a British couple on holiday in Cyprus to celebrate their engagement.

Nerys Lloyd-Crabtree, aged 52, and her fiancé John David Cameron, who arrived on the island on Sunday, had just attended a celebration of their engagement at a restaurant. The pair were walking back to their accommodation at the Pafian Sun holiday village in Paphos, when Lloyd-Crabtree suddenly fell to the ground.

An ambulance arrived swiftly on the scene and transported her to Paphos General Hospital. Unfortunately, there was nothing doctors could do for her and she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said there was a slight injury to the back of her head, but it was not clear if this had been caused by the fall.

The General Manager of Paphos General Hospital, Filaktis Constantinides, confirmed yesterday that an autopsy to determine the cause of death would take place today.

The victim was from St Asaph in north Wales.

Police said there was no suspicion of foul play.
