Crackdown on illegal immigrants

FOURTEEN people were arrested yesterday as part of the police’s continuing crackdown against foreigners who illegally reside or work on the island, or have otherwise entered Cyprus without permission.

In the island-wide operation, ten people were arrested for working illegally and four for illegal entry.

Three illegal workers from Sri Lanka were arrested in Nicosia, while three (one Lebanese, and two Syrians) were arrested in Paphos,

Two Bangladeshis who were working illegally in Limassol and two Pakistanis who were doing the same in the Famagusta area were also arrested.

Of those arrested for illegal entry, three were arrested in Limassol and one in Nicosia.
In addition, five employers were arrested and charged in writing before they were released.

Two of the employers were apprehended in Paphos, while each of the other three were arrested in Nicosia, Limassol and Famagusta.
