Is Moller slated for replacement?

U.N. SPECIAL Representative Michael Moller could be reposted by the end of the year, reports suggested yesterday.

Citing New York sources, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) said that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon was considering replacing Moller, who is considered by Ankara to be biased in favour of the Greek Cypriot side.

Famagusta mayor expresses concern over ferry service

THE MAYOR of Famagusta yesterday spoke of an urgent need to strengthen foreign policy over a planned ferry service between the occupied town and Latakia in Syria, which supposedly begins today.

Alexi Galanos blamed the government as well as the Syrians, after the ferry service was announced last month.

Car gutted Limassol arson

A LIMASSOL man has reported that his convertible car was set on fire while it was parked outside his home, police said.

The arson took place during the early hours of Tuesday. The man, who runs a Limassol-based company, parked the £15,000 company car outside his house on Monday night and discovered its singed remains the next morning.

Troodos lashed by hailstorm

A HAILSTORM lashed the lower areas of the Troodos mountain range yesterday afternoon causing problems to some of the roads and low visibility to drivers.

Yesterday, police officials announced that the roads up to and on Troodos had become slippery from the hailstorm and were cautioning drivers to be extra careful.

Nikiforos 2007 kicks off

NATIONAL GUARD reservists yesterday took part in the beginning of the annual Nikiforos 2007 military exercise, which will last until October 14.

“In a semi-occupied country that is under threat, the realisation of military obligations is an imperative necessity,” Defence Minister Christodoulos Pashiardis said before the exercise commenced.
