Man in hospital after family squabble

AN IRANIAN man was in hospital yesterday after being repeatedly stabbed for telling a relative of his to end her relationship with her boyfriend.

The 25-year-old disgruntled boyfriend, who is also Iranian, went to visit the 35-year-old to seek an explanation, a furious fight ensued and then the knife came out.

The incident took place on Sunday evening in Limassol.

During the remand hearing yesterday, the investigator told the judge that the 25-year-old was under investigation for illegal possession of a knife and causing grievous bodily harm.

The suspect was remanded in police custody for four days.

“At around 9pm, the victim received a threatening phone call from the suspect,” the investigator told the court yesterday.

“A short while later, the suspect went to see the victim and it wasn’t long before they both began shouting at each other… At some point, the suspect pulled out a knife and began stabbing the victim.”

Despite being crippled from his stab wounds and drenched in blood, the victim managed to wrestle the knife out of his attacker’s hands.

Witnesses called police and both men were rushed by ambulance to hospital.

The victim was treated for the stab wounds, that were found all over his body, and blood loss while the assailant was treated for a cut to his arm.
