Proteas EKA AEL want to play in Greek A1 league

PROTEAS EKA AEL want to start playing in the top Greek division in the 2008-09 season, team principals announced at a press conference on Monday afternoon in Nicosia.

According to the Limassol club’s president, Proteas EKA AEL will be ready for the move by the end of 2007.

The Greek basketball authorities are said to be excited about the possibility of the Cypriot club’s participation in the league; however some legal matters will have to be navigated for the move to take place.
Besides playing in the Greek A1, the reigning champions of Cyprus expressed their willingness to still compete in the Cypriot Cup, Cypriot Super Cup and represent the country at the FIBA EuroCup.

The Limassol powerhouse has already made the first steps to ensure they will be title contenders in the upcoming season after signing the experienced American combo guard Duane Woodward. The 31-year old is expected to stay in Limassol until 2010.
The signing of two more players was also announced during the press conference. The Limassol side have agreed terms with the Croatian power forward Sasa Cuic and the Serbian small forward Rade Kozomara.

Three more players are expected to sign with the club in the next few days according to the club’s president. There are indications that one of them could be the best Cypriot player in the previous season, Keravnos Cyprus College’s center Panayiotis Trisokkas.
