Four accused of pimping Paraguayan women

FOUR MEN have been arrested and remanded in police custody on suspicion of pimping two Paraguayan women at a popular cabaret in central Nicosia.

A fifth man – who was arrested in connection with the same offences – was freed just before the hearing due to wrong identification after the police got declared his surname wrong in the arrest warrant.

According to CID Sergeant Stavros Nestoros, all four men are under investigation on charges of pimping, illegally earning from prostitution, sexual exploitation, running a brothel, conspiracy to commit a crime and concealment.

The complaints against the men – the cabaret owner, his son and two waiters at the establishment – were made on Tuesday by the two women, who told investigators that the owner and his son had been forcing them to sleep with customers.

“One of the women told us that she would have sex with customers inside a private room in the cabaret for £30, of which she would keep £10 and the cabaret would keep £20,” the investigator told the court during yesterday’s remand hearing.

He added, “For every customer they slept with outside the cabaret, each customer would pay the cabaret £100-120, of which £30 would go to the women.”

All men have denied wrongdoing, with the cabaret owner telling investigators during his arrest, “I will co-operate with the police. These allegations are lies!”

Police investigators had requested a remand period of eight days against the suspects, but Judge Angelos David ruled that the request was “excessive” and remanded the men in police custody for six days instead.
