Constable pleads guilty to prostitution charges

A POLICEMAN yesterday pleaded guilty to seven prostitution related charges after being caught in the act having sex with a man and a woman

Yesterday, Giorgos Savvas Georgiou, a 27-year-old special constable, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty after initially denying any wrongdoing. His accomplice, 25-year-old Christos Lambrianos, also changed his pea in the hearing yesterday.

On January 6 this year, Nicosia CID raided an apartment in the Strovolos and found the two men performing a sex act in the bedroom in the presence of the woman. Arresting officers soon discovered that one of the men was none other than a colleague stationed at the Nicosia police headquarters.

Moldovan national Oksana Ruska, the woman present in the room, was also in the dock yesterday, having already pleaded guilty to similar prostitution charges.

Further investigations revealed that the two men would post advertisements in newspapers, saying that they would meet other people for group sex regardless of their gender.

Police decided to press charges against the two men when it was also discovered that they were also prostituting Ruska in the sex sessions which are believed to have been taking place at the Strovolos apartment between August 2005 and January 2006.

Judge Alexandros Panayiotou yesterday ordered sentencing to take place on November 16.
Both men could face as much as nine months imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Ruska is set for a trial having pleaded not guilty to some of the charges.

Both men, who have been ordered by the judge to be examined by welfare service officials, are currently on a £3,000 bail pending their next court appearance.

The court had also ordered that both men’s travel documents be seized and that they both report to their local police station twice a week.

Ruska remains in custody.
