Youth dies of heart attack after night of partying

A 19-YEAR-OLD man, who had returned home after a night of celebrating the completion of his National Guard duty, died suddenly in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Zacharias Georgiou, from Ayia Fila in Limassol, returned home at around 4am on Sunday morning after going out in the tourist area of Yermasoyia with friends to celebrate the completion of their two years military service in the National Guard.
His father was woken up by the sound of Zacharias’ vomiting early on Sunday morning and went to see if his son was alright.
His son also complained of stomach pains.

According to his father, Zacharias told that him that he had only drunk whisky that night.
Almost an hour later, his father went to check on his son and found him lying unconscious on his bed.

An ambulance was immediately called, but doctors at Limassol General Hospital could only confirm the young man’s death, from a massive heart attack.
State Pathologist Sofoclis Sofocleous said on Sunday that toxicology tests would be conducted to establish if the 19-year-old may have suffered undetected heart problems in the past.
