No foul play in burnt body case

POLICE HAVE ruled out foul play after the death of a man who died in a fire in his apartment on Severis Avenue in Nicosia on Thursday evening.

Police officials believe that the fire may have started by a burning cigarette that fell out of the ashtray. State Coroner Sofoclis Sofocleous yesterday said that the cause of death was severe burning, adding that tests would need to be made on the liquids of the man’s stomach and his blood to determine if he had been unconscious at the time.

Legal sources yesterday told the Cyprus Mail that the man was Ukrainian national Gennadiy Ivanov.
