Irresponsible dog owners making my life a misery

Sir,
I feel I must write in to respond to the many animal lovers writing in recently complaining about dogs being poisoned by lanate.

I couldn’t agree more with the gentleman who wrote in a few days ago asking what drives normally law-abiding people to act in such a manner.

It’s not for the fun of it or out of boredom or cruelty, but because they are driven to it by rude, inconsiderate dog owners who show no respect for the people living nearby them who want peace and quiet.

My problem is not with the dogs themselves but with their owners. They leave their dogs outside day and night to bark and howl while people are trying to sleep. For God’s sake, if they cannot keep their dogs under control, they should either not own one in the first place or be made to keep it indoors.

The warm climate in Cyprus means people sleep with their bedroom windows open. They certainly do not want a yapping dog a few metres away from where they are trying to sleep at six o’clock on a Sunday morning.

And when the owners are asked to show some consideration to their neighbours, they either become defensive and aggressive or just totally ignore the request.

Therefore they shouldn’t write in crying about their beloved pets as they should take a good, long look at themselves and ask why this is happening.
