Basketball All-Star Day 2006 heading for Cyprus

FOR THE second time, Cyprus will this year host the Eurocup All-Star Day, organised by FIBA Europe. The day is one of the biggest basketball events in the world.

According to CNA, the event promises a rich programme, a three-pointers’ competition and an interesting basketball game between 12 of the best European players and 12 of the rest of the worlds’ best players.

“Europe against the Rest of the World” will be commentated by John Mason, presenter of the NBA Detroit Pistons basketball team.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Michael Loizides, said that the organisation of the Eurocup All Star Day in Cyprus for the second time in a row “constitutes recognition of the big effort to upgrade Cypriot basketball”.

Speaking at a press conference, Loizides said that Eurocup All Star Day 2006 will take place in Limassol’s Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Centre on March 14. The stadium has a capacity of 6,300 people.

In the framework of the event, several seminars on Sport Management will be organised as well as workshops for referees and coaches.

Impressive basketball and acrobatic skills will be presented by famous teams like “Slam Nation” and “Crazy Dunkers”, as well as “Matadors” of the Chicago Bulls, who are famous for their entertaining, dancing and acting show.

The “Luvabulls” – cheerleaders for the Chicago Bulls – as well as cheerleaders of Ukraine team Dynamo Kiev have also been invited to participate at the FIBA celebration day.

This is the third time that the FIBA All-Star Day has been organised. The first took place in Kiev, Ukraine.
