Barking mad

Sir,

Your correspondent in Paphos (‘Barking dogs’, September 25) has our most heartfelt sympathy.

We have even had to resort to sleeping tablets to gain any rest from the constantly barking dogs nearby. All our married life totalling now nearly 38 years has been spent in villages both here and in the UK, in peace and quiet, and we enjoy that type of life, which is why we chose to live in a village near Paphos.

Surely as we are all now “equal” members of the EU, we all should ensure that we behave and conduct our family life, which includes dogs (our pet dog also), in such a manner as to be acceptable to all. We do not think this asking too much.

If Cypriot villagers do not want us here (to pay our taxes, bring money into the country, comply with the law, etc.), what do they want?

We have also tried to reason with our dog owning neighbours about the noise nuisance, but to no effect. These people keep their dogs in the most appalling conditions, no exercise, adequate shelter etc., but we fear for any reprisals on our own beloved dog if we continue our protests. This is not right!
