New accidents despite measures

NEW intensified police measures over the weekend were not enough in some cases as two people were injured and one died in three separate accidents across the island.
A traffic accident on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of 29-year-old Costas Georgiou Savva.

The accident happened on the Kiti to Meneou road in the Larnaca district after Savva’s motorcycle strayed off course, clipping some wooden railings and a telephone pole before ending up in a nearby field.

The 29-year-old, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Larnaca General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. He is now the 79th person to die on Cyprus’ roads this year.
Earlier on Saturday lunchtime a car driven by a 36-year-old from Limassol collided with a motorcycle being ridden by a 23-year-old from Mofiloti in central Limassol. The motorcycle was hurled onto the tarmac and the driver hit the bonnet of the car.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a crash helmet, was taken to Limassol General Hospital where he was diagnosed with multiple injuries.

Later on that night in Engomi, Nicosia, another accident occurred after a car driven by a 14-year-old on Evripidou Street crashed head-on with a motorcycle ridden by a 23-year-old foreigner.
