Woman pilot in sex discrimination case

A WOMAN pilot has begun a landmark sexual discrimination suit against Cyprus Airways (CY), claiming thousands of pounds in potential lost earnings, reports yesterday said.

Although the claim was filed in April 2001, it has only now reached the courts and is believe to be the first major case of sexual discrimination against a semi-government company.

New accidents despite measures

Neighbourhood evacuated after ammonia leak

RESIDENTS of a Larnaca neighbourhood were evacuated on Sunday after an ammonia leak from a local storage warehouse. No one was hurt.

At around 9am, residents called police to complain of a pungent smell. Police arriving on the scene immediately closed the street (near a football stadium), cordoned off the area and evacuated local residents to a safe range of 300 meters.

Police seek Sri Lankan in stabbing incident

A 27-YEAR-OLD Sri Lankan man was yesterday being sought by police in connection with the stabbing of a compatriot during a street fight in Limassol in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 26-year-old victim is said to be in a serious but not life-threatening condition in Limassol Hospital.
