Mystery surrounds village wedding shooting

POLICE were yesterday still looking for leads in the attempted murder of a 30-year-old man shot during a wedding party in the Limassol district village of Pahna in the early hours of Sunday.

Nicos Tymvios was shot in the head with a shotgun at 3am while partying at a wedding reception in the municipal parking lot.

Tymvios sustained heavy head trauma and was placed on a ventilator in Nicosia hospital.

Police have so far questioned several people but made no arrests.

Investigators are convinced that someone at the party must have seen something, though none have stepped forward with any helpful information.

Police said the gunman was hiding in a nearby vineyard.

He shot Tymvios from a distance of five metres and no one from the 50 or so guests heard the shot due to the loud music bellowing from the speakers.

They only realised something was wrong when Tymvios fell to the ground in a pool of blood.

The gunman made his escape.
