Anastasiades leaves for the US

PRESIDENT Nicos Anastasiades left the island on Thursday on his way to the United States where he is due to meet several heads of state, the UN Secretary General and the US vice-president.

His visit to the US to attend the UN General Assembly, will be preceded by a short stop-over in London where he was due to give an interview to London Greek Radio on Thursday night.

He will depart on Saturday morning and is due to arrive in New York at 12.30pm local time.

On Monday he is due to meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon before attending a banquet held by US President Barack Obama.

In the following days he will meet various heads of state, including the Presidents of Panama, Serbia, Bulgaria, Sri Lanka, Palestine and China’s foreign minister.

Next week he will travel to Washington where he is due to meet US Vice President Joe Biden before travelling back to New York to return home on September 28
