Tourism revenue up 12.7% in May year-on-year

Tourism revenue reached €244.7m in May 2016 compared to €217.1m in the corresponding month of the previous year, an increase of 12.7 per cent, Cystat said on Wednesday.
For the period January to May this year, revenue from tourism was estimated at €530.2m compared to €471.9m in the corresponding period of 2015, an increase of 12.4 per cent.

The average length of stay in May 2016 remained unchanged compared the same month last year at nine days, but average per capita expenditure decreased to €670 compared with to €706 in the corresponding month of 2015.

The increase in revenue in May 2016 was mainly due to the significant increase in arrivals of 18.7 per cent, but an increase was recorded in per capita expenditure by tourists from the UK to €815 from €755 in May last year.

Per capita spending by Russian tourists dropped to €577 from €752 in May 2015.
