Three arrests for fake passports

Police at Paphos Airport have arrested a Cameroonian man and an Iranian couple who attempted to use fake passports to leave the island, in two separate incidents.

At around 9pm on Tuesday the Cameroonian man, who was on his way to Germany handed over a fake Belgian passport to officers at the airport, a police spokesman said on Wednesday. After examining his passport, the police established it was a real passport but that the photograph had been changed, and arrested him.

Earlier on Tuesday, at around 7.30pm an Iranian couple attempted to travel to Amsterdam using Spanish passports, the spokesman said. Their passports were checked by officers at passport control where they established both were counterfeit and arrested the couple.

Paphos CID is investigating both cases.
