Musical Famagusta Gate

It has become a tradition in Nicosia that every summer Famagusta Gate hosts a number of Greek singers as part of the EDON festival, a tradition that counts 29 years this year and will host six singers over three nights.

Kicking things off on Wednesday will be singers Natassa Bofiliou – the only female singer in the festival – and Babis Stokas. You couldn’t tell by listening to Bofiliou’s voice, but she actually studied political science before going on to take on the music world. She will be joined by Stokas, a former member of the very successful band Pyx Lax.

Thursday brings composer Thanos Mikroutsikos and singer Miltos Paschalidis to the Nicosia stage.

Mikroutsikos is best known for composing music to poems by Nikos Kavvadias, which were compiled on the album Stavros Tou Notou. If you like Greek alternative music – as they call it – then you will know that Paschalidis takes his guitar with him wherever he goes and makes you feel right at home.

The third and final day will see festival favourite Vasilis Papakonstantinou put on a show in his very rock, unique style. While Papakonstantinou will rock on Panos Mouzourakis will show us his rather quirky – yet musical – side.
