Farmer remanded after attacking relative over herd of sheep

A 58-year-old man from Polemidia, near Limassol, was remanded for eight days on Wednesday after he reportedly stabbed his relative, aged 68, whose herd of sheep wandered into his farm and destroyed his vegetables.

The court heard that the 58-year-old initially appeared at the Polemidia police station, alleging that had been attacked with a knife by the 68-year-old after a heated argument, and that he had managed to disarm him, without knowing if he had injured his attacker.

On the other hand, the court also heard from the police that the 68-year-old was taken to Limassol Hospital with stab wounds to his chest, accompanied by a friend who was an eyewitness to the incident and reportedly in shock.

According to the testimonies gathered by the police, the 58-year-old had stopped the 68-year-old’s vehicle and after a heated argument pulled out a knife and injured the victim. The eyewitness, according to the police, saw the two men arguing and managed to take the knife away from the 58-year-old and threw it away.

The 58-year-old then left, while the older man drove in his car for around 2 kilometres, and asked for help from passers-by. He was taken to the Limassol hospital where his condition has been described as stable.

Police told the court that they haven’t been able to locate the knife, despite the fact that the eye witness indicated where he had thrown it.

The 58-year-old could face charges of attempted murder, carrying a knife and causing bodily harm or injury.
