Peru in focus

If you would like to take a quick journey to Peru this weekend, which doesn’t involve booking tickets or jet-lag, then all you have to do is go to the Beat Bazaar in Limassol where the solo exhibition by photographer Christina Drakos will be on until the end of the month.

Drakos, a renowned Cypriot photographer, is currently showcasing her latest collection of photographs which she took on her trip to Peru.

Speaking about the exhibition Peru Mi Amor, the photographer said “like any other form of art, photography creates its own reality. It captures the tension of the moment in a uniquely direct, vivid, vibrant and spontaneous way.

“Travelling to Peru, I photographed nature and its grandeur in different corners of the country as well as people in their everyday life.”

The Limassol born photographer has presented her work in exhibitions organised by the International Federation of the Art of Photography and in countries such as Austria, Slovakia, Australia, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Croatia, France, Italy, Scotland and China among others.

Locally she has participated in various group exhibitions, as well as photo contests organised by the Cyprus Photographic Society.

In 2000 she was awarded the first honourable mention for her participation in the Pancyprian Photo Competition. In 2003 she was awarded a distinction for the same competition, in which she participated with two unique photographs.

All the proceeds from the sale of the photographs will be donated to the Sagapo Children’s Foundation, which supports children in need.
