Police injured in Menoyia attack

Two Egyptian men held at the migrant detention centre in Menoyia were arrested on Monday in connection with assaulting police officers.

The incident happened in the morning, after two individuals climbed on the roof of a building to protest their detention.

Security staff tried to stop the men but were obstructed by other migrants.

The two suspects, aged 24 and 28, allegedly assaulted the special constables, injuring four.

Riot police were called to the scene as well as negotiators who managed to convince the men to climb down.

The officers were treated in hospital and subsequently discharged.
