Remands after Peyia break in

Two men aged 22 and a 16-year-old girl have been arrested in connection with the reported robbery in a house in Peyia on Friday of items worth around €210,000.

According to police reports, one of the 22-year olds was arrested on Sunday. He was remanded on Monday for six days. The other two suspects were arrested on Monday and were remanded for four days.

The break-in was reported by the home’s 49-year old owner on Friday night. According to the police, she reported that she and her husband were out most of the day and returned back home at around 9pm to find that someone had broken into their house.

Perpetrators reportedly stole a gold bracelet worth €100,000, a number of other pieces of jewellery, €32,000 in cash, and medicinal herbs that were stored in nylon bags, worth €50,000, and other objects.

The total value of the items stolen is estimated at around €210,000.

The items were not insured. The perpetrators entered the house, which is located in a remote area, by breaking in through the bedroom window, police said.

The 16-year-old told police she was with the two 22-year-olds the day the break-in took place but that they left at some point after telling her they had to do something. The 22-year-old arrested on Monday refused to cooperate.
