Juncker and Stoltenberg optimistic for Cyprus solution

President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday expressed optimism that a solution to the Cyprus problem would soon be reached.

He was speaking during a joint news conference in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Juncker said he recently saw the two Cypriot negotiators and he was optimistic. He said he believes there will be a solution soon and that “the whole atmosphere in the region will change.”

The NATO General Secretary said that “it would be wrong to make guesses for an agreement” but added that “there are encouraging signs”.
He noted that “progress has been made” and welcomed the efforts by the UN, which, as he added, “we support to end a conflict which exists many decades now.” (CNA)
