Hotel workers postpone planned strike (Updated)

Hotel workers who were due to stage a series of 24-hour warning strikes at selected hotels from Friday postponed the measures on Thursday night after the intervention of Labour Minister Zeta Emilianidou.

According to an official announcement, the minister has invited the heads of employers and trade unions at a meeting in her office on Friday at 9.30am to discuss all issues of concern to both sides.

Unions, who signed a collective agreement with employers in 2013 that provided for a 15 per cent cut in workers’ overall benefits are demanding increases in benefits in equal measure after the agreement expired in December.
