UK court unfreezes Turkish diplomats’ accounts

A British court has lifted an order to freeze the accounts of Turkish diplomats in the UK following a property ruling made in Cyprus, reports said on Tuesday.

The case concerns seven Greek Cypriots who filed a property case against Turkey.

Once the court in Cyprus ruled in their favour, they took the case to the British justice system, asking the decision be implemented in the UK.

British courts then proceeded to block bank accounts of several Turkish individuals including some serving as diplomats.

But, according to state broadcaster CyBC, the court lifted the order following strong protests from Turkey, which said it was in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
