Quarrying activities raise hackles in Oroklini.

THE CYPRUS Green Party and residents of Oroklini yesterday joined forces to call for the end of unlawful quarrying.

They are calling for the responsible authorities to end all illegal activities and restore the environment to its original state, in a natural and protected region.

“We must not under any circumstances allow for the discussion or approval of any proposal to expand the activities of the quarry, which currently operates in a protection zone,” the statement said.

Residents of Oroklini complained of obstruction and non-implementation by the government departments in charge, in carrying out court decisions, which demanded the demolition of the illegal facilities of the quarrying company.

The statement further stated that a covering up of the quarrying over the years has increased and encouraged the illegal activity.
