Fire service rescue man out walking

A man was rescued by the Fire Service on Saturday after he fell down a river bank near Spilia, Nicosia.

According to a statement, the Fire Service was notified at around noon on Saturday that a man was injured after falling down the bank.

Rescue teams from the Nicosia and Evrichou stations responded to the call, and the man was spotted by 1:30pm.

Koullis Kyriacou, 45, an Aglantjia resident, had lost his balance while walking on a mountain slope and tumbled down the bank, resulting in a broken leg.

Firemen placed Kyriacou on a stabilisation board and carried him to an ambulance despatched to the area, which transported him to Nicosia general hospital.

Kyriacou had been alone in the area, the statement said, and had called the Fire Service from his mobile phone.
