Greek raisin warning

The state health services have warned the public about a brand of raisins on the market that have been found to contain high levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA), a toxic fungal metabolite.

In a statement released on Wednesday, it said a sample of a packet of raisins by Livadiotis with the expiration date November 17, 2016 weighing 200 grams was found to contain higher levels of OTA than permissible.

The company has been warned and told to remove the specific product from the market for further tests.

Consumers are advised to check if the product is already in their home.

The raisins are packaged by Kafekoption Charalambous and the Batch number is L1711. It is imported from Greece.
