Co-operative bank workers to strike on Friday

Bank workers union ETYK said that its 900 members will hold a 24-hour strike on Friday at the bailed-out Cooperative Central Bank after talks over the renewal of the collective agreement collapsed.

“While we arrived at an agreement on the exact content of a new collective agreement we were informed by the bank’s management that this cannot be signed as finance minister Harris Georgiades objects,” the union said in a statement on its website. “It is not the first time that the Co-operative Central Bank’s management backs down from agreements and these steps inevitably undermine the whole effort and lead things to a head-on confrontation”.
